It was a miserable, wet night in Mansfield last night, but that didn't stop the KP Warriors! They were tough, gritty, and full of defensive power - yup, they were KP. The Warriors beat league rival Mansfield Hornets 10 - 7 in the Division 2 South Championship Game on the road. Games between these two teams are always epic battles and this one did not disappoint.
KP heads to Gillette Stadium for the 3rd time in three years to defend their Division 2 State Championship title against the North Andover Scarlet Knights. The game will be played either Friday night 11/30 or Saturday 12/1, time and date to be announced later.
The KP Warriors fought for a big win over Natick in the Division 2 South Semi-final last night. It was a great road win to advance the South Finals next Friday 11/9 vs. league rival Mansfield to see who goes to the Super Bowl. It is sure to be an epic battle and a must-see! The Warriors faced the Mansfield Hornets earlier this season in Hockomock League play. It was a hard fought game by both teams that ended with KP coming back from a 2 touchdown deficit in the 4th quarter, but coming up short with the two-point conversion in the final seconds losing the game 27-28.
A win next week would mean a trip back to the Super Bowl at Gillette Stadium for the third year in a row. Last year the Warriors beat Mansfield in the Division 2 South Semi-final Game and went on to win their second consecutive state championship. It should be a good game, don’t miss it.
As far as high school football goes it doesn't get better than a game between King Philip and Hockomock rival Mansfield. Last night was no exception! It was a crazy game that had everything - an epic defensive battle, touchdowns, turnovers, field goals, penalties, lead changes, a 2-touchdown comeback with just over six minutes left - and it came down to one 2-point conversion play with 39 seconds left in the game.
Trailing Mansfield 24 - 14 with 6:50 left in the game, KP orchestrated a two touchdown comeback. The Junior QB Robbie Jarest connected with three different receivers - Morganelli, Nault & Casado - to move the ball down the field, twice. The second KP touchdown came with 39 seconds left in the game, bringing the score to KP 27 - Mansfield 28. The Warriors went for the 2-point conversion for win and didn't convert. Game over...
Both teams played hard as usual and if all goes well they will meet again in the Division 2 South Playoffs.
The KP Warriors picked up their first division win Friday night against the 2-0 Attleboro Blue Bombardiers. It was a defensive battle with Attleboro's only points coming from a blocked KP PAT run back to the Attleboro end zone for 2 pts. KP scored on a 65-yard drive with #34 Ryan Halliday running it in from the 16-yard line for a touchdown with 1:35 left in the first half. The other two scores came from #37 Cole Baker field goals (36 yards & 27 yards).
The physical KP defense was lights out with contributions coming from all areas including four quarterback sacks. The offense totaled 237 yards — 123 rushing, 127 passing. Junior Ryan Halliday had 36 carries for 120 yards rushing and Junior Robbie Jarest was 9-for-13 for 127 yards passing with David Morganelli hauling in 7 receptions for 104 yards.
Next week the Warriors travel to Mansfield for another battle for the ages!
Friday night's 17 - 0 shut out against Foxboro was not only the first win of the season, but it marked Coach Brian Lee's 100TH WIN as the head coach at KP.
Coach Lee came to King Philip in 2005 to be the head coach, but also to build a football program. It takes time. Not only do you need players, but they need year-round training and they need to want to work hard. It's a culture change. You also need fans, you need school support, and you need community support. It's a building process.
In his first three seasons at KP, the Warriors went 8 - 24. The 2008 season was a turning point when the team finished 9 - 2 for the season, and they were off to the races. They were Hockomock Kelley-Rex Champions 5 out of the last 7 seasons and now have two undefeated seasons with back to back state titles to their credit. It's been quite a ride!
Although we mark Coach Lee's milestone, he couldn't do it alone. He has a great support team of loyal & talented assistant coaches and Rich Harwood of KP Gridiron. Plus, a tremendous fan base with great coummity support!
Congratulations Coach Lee! Keep it rolling! #kppride
KP WINS! D2 SOUTH SECTIONAL CHAMPS - ON TO SUPER BOWL!
Another great game, another big WIN! KP beat Bridgewater-Raynham 29 - 19 last night in the D2 South Sectional Final to advance to the Super Bowl at Gillette Stadium for the second year in a row. The Warriors are now 10 - 0 for the season and keep their current state best active winning streak alive, now 23-0!
It was a cold night in Wrentham, but as usual the Warriors played with incredible heart & drive. They had 330 yards of total offense and 46 plays to BR's 338 yards and 58 plays, but the Warriors were able to hold them to only 19 points. For the second straight week, the Warrior defense shut out the other team in the second half! The Warriors also played a clean game - no turnovers, no penalties! Senior QB Brendan Lydon had 106 passing yards and Senior RB Shane Frommer had an incredible 207 rushing yards and 3 touchdowns.
Unbeaten KP returns to Gillette Stadium the weekend of 12/1 for another run at the state championship. They'll play Lincoln-Sudbury and game day & time is TBD.

It was another epic battle against Hockomock rival Mansfield last night with King Philip coming out with another WIN! The Warriors extended their season winning streak to 9 - 0 and their current state-best winning streak to 22 - 0. They advance to the D2 South Sectional Finals for the 3rd time in 4 years and play a rematch of last year's game vs. Bridgewater - Raynham. As the #1 seed they will continue to play at home (Fri. 11/10 at 7 pm) vs. the #3 seed Bridgewater-Raynham.
The team continues to play with heart, make big plays when they count and keep playing to the end - as a result they continue to win. “We’ve got a lot of guys who are just laid back and chill and they know when to perform,” said junior linebacker Jack Webster. “They perform at the right times. We’ve got good confidence on the team. We’re just calm, cool, and collected and we just play team ball.” Well, watching from the stands it doesn't feel laid back and chill, it's exciting, but grueling at the same time as the Warriors grind out their victories.
This game had it all - trick plays, huge sacks, key defensive stops, beautiful passes, tough running, and a rock-solid kicking game. Another huge playoff game next week against another really talented team, you won't want to miss it!! Go KP!
King Philip (#1 seed) battled Barnstable (#8 seed) last night in the first round of the MIAA Playoffs and came up a winner again! With their 35 - 20 win over a tough Barnstable team, KP now 8 - 0 for the season and 21 - 0 overall advances to the next round. They will battle league nemesis Mansfield next Friday night at 7 pm at home.
Senior QB Brendan Lydon only threw the ball 8 times with 7 completions and 77 yards, but he made them count with 3 being for touchdowns! Jack Piller caught two in the endzone and Thomas Madden caught the other in heavy traffic in the endzone. Senior Shane Frommer rushed for a total of 180 yards and 2 touchdowns. Sophmore kicker Cole Baker continues to amaze and went 5 for 5 with PAT kicks last night!
Next week's rematch will be a good one! KP beat Mansfield 28 - 10 at the end of September, but as always it was a battle, they are a good team. You won't want to miss it! KP vs. Mansfield - Fri. 11/3 at 7 pm at King Philip High School.
KP TAKES HOCKOMOCK KELLEY-REX TITLE & IMPROVES RECORD TO 20-0
It was the last regular season game before the playoffs and KP beat Taunton 35 - 7 to secure the Hockomock Kelley-Rex Title, the #1 seed in Division 2 South and extend the winning streak to 20 -0! What a night!
The Sun Chronicle said it best -- "Senior Andrew Dittrich “stole” the show for the Kelley-Rex Division champion King Philip Regional High football team Friday." Dittrich had his first pick 6 of the game to end Taunton's first possession of the game and grabbed another one on the goal line in the 4th quarter running it back the length of the field. He also intercepted another in their end zone.
Senior Quarterback Brendon Lydon completed 13 of 20 passes for 190 yards with touchdown passes to tight ends Jack Piller (15 yards) and Dylan Leonard (25 yards). Shane Frommer scored on a 10-yard run in the first quarter. Sophomore Cole Baker nailed all five PAT kicks.
The boys continue to prove day in and out that hard work does indeed pay-off:
Hockmock Kelley - Rex Champs 5 of the last 7 years!
#1 Seed in Division 2 South last 3 out of 4 years!
Longest current winning streak in the state 20 - 0!
Playoffs start next Friday night as the #1 seed Warriors take on #8 seed Barnstable in Division 2 South match-up, at home. The #1 seed ranking gives KP home field advantage throughout the playoffs. #bethere
It was a battle to the bitter end but the King Philip Warriors pulled out a big win over Franklin, 17 -14. The Warriors trailed 14 - 7 since before the half until Lydon threw a 31 - yard TD pass to Madden to tie it up with 4 minutes left in the game. On their next possession KP grinded out a drive downfield to the 2 yard line and Cole Baker kicked a field goal to win the game 17 -14, leaving no time left on the clock!!
KP is now 5 - 0 for the season and increased their winning streak to 18 - 0!
It was a rare Thursday Night game and oh what a game it was!! Unbeaten King Philip Warriors battled against the unbeaten Mansfield Hornets last night and WON! Mansfield dominated much of the first half and then captain Shane Frommer came up with a game changing pick 6 at the 4 yard line followed by a 96 yard run to end the half 7-10, instead of 17-0. King Philip came out and dominated the second half with 21 unanswered points.
